A hose is a hose. Right? What’s the big deal? Talking about garden hoses seems so mundane and boring, until you realize you bought the wrong one. The wrong hose can make gardening a nightmare. Handling a cheap 100′ hose that’s stiff and kinks when you could have used a better quality 50′ hose will have you wishing you’d read this article first.

A few considerations when choosing the right hose are:

  • What length do I need? Longer is not always better.
  • Does it easily kink? Will you constantly have to stop and un-twist the hose?
  • What about hose diameter? Will it provide enough water flow and pressure?
  • Is it easy to wind up and store? The longer or stiffer the hose, the more difficult.
  • What about the quality of the hose/warranty? Will it start leaking after the first few weeks of use?

Kelly Burgess over at the Gardener’s Path has some recommendations for the best hoses of 2021 and what to look for.
